Tips for Cutting Watermelon into Small Pieces

Work with the right texture of melon

Firm watermelon will be the easiest to work with. Save the softer and juicier pieces for another use.

Helpful tools

Keep three containers nearby to collect the pellets, “scraps”, and watermelon juice. Cutting watermelon can get messy. Work on a rimmed plate or cutting board to contain the juice. Have a paper/kitchen towel or clean sponge nearby to clean up any mess.

Cutting fruit with a straw

•   Leave small spaces in between each cut out hole. That way you will be able to enjoy eating the leftovers

•   Place one hand over the top of the straw to catch the small watermelon pieces that get pushed out

•   Slightly twist the straw when cutting through the watermelon

•   If the pieces are not traveling into the straw try:

⋅  lifting the watermelon up off the cutting board to make sure the straw passes all the way through

⋅  use a napkin to dry the surface you are working on

⋅  stack fewer pieces of watermelon

•   Use a regular straw to remove any pellets left inside the smoothie straw.
