A Mayo Free Tuna Salad
Ready for another meal prep idea that’s going to change the way you prepare a classic?
Here it is. Mayo free tuna fish.
While there is certainly a place for mayonnaise, and don’t get me wrong tuna is still one of them, it’s nice to have other alternatives too. Especially when they are just as delicious and convenient.
This mayonnaise free tuna salad, swaps out the mayo for a plant based alternative—with the addition of hummus.
A Flavorful Shortcut
In addition to the classic hummus flavor, Sabra Hummus also comes in over 12 different varieties—such as Olive Tapenade, Roasted Garlic, Sun dried Tomato, Roasted Red Pepper. Plus a few organic options too. These flavors are packaged in the center of the container, so you can mix in as much or as little as you want. See the full selection here. All these options make it really simple to quickly add flavor to a dish.
Flavor that would otherwise take a lot longer to achieve:
Have the time: Caramelized Onion Quinoa Salad Bowl
Shortcut: Mix in some Caramelized Onion Hummus instead
Plant Based Bonus
Sabra Hummus products are also a great way to include some delicious plant based protein into your diet. Hummus is made from cooked and ground chickpeas. If beans are not already a part of your plate, adding hummus could help with that. It can be a great vehicle for more plant based foods too, such as using it as a dip with vegetables. A tablespoon of hummus has 1 gram of protein.
Ways to Enjoy Hummus
As a Spread
A common way to use hummus is to spread a layer onto sandwiches, a Breakfast Wrap or even a piece of toast.
A Snack Dip
Have it on its own alongside vegetable crudités or with a roll to dip with—like these Mini Pretzel Rolls or Double Onion Rolls.
Mixed into Salad Bowls
Stir 1-2 tablespoons of hummus into homemade salad dressings for a creamy salad topping. Alternatively, add a scoop straight to the side of your salad bowl.
A Plant Based Mayo Substitute
Use hummus, in place of mayonnaise, as an egg-free way to bind together dips or salads—like this mayo free tuna salad.
How do you like to enjoy hummus?
Open and drain the tuna fish. Transfer to a bowl and flake with a fork. Mix in hummus and corn. If desired, toast the slices of bread. Spread hummus onto 2 of the slices. Layer with lettuce, tuna, and cucumbers. Top each half with the remaining bread. Mayo Free Tuna Salad Sandwich
