How to make this white chocolate covered popcorn

First you’ll need plain popcorn. You can pop the kernels yourself—using a hot air popcorn maker, a covered pot on the stove, in the microwave—or purchase a bag of plain unflavored popcorn.

Next, melt your favorite flavor of chocolate. Drizzle it over the popcorn. Allow to dry and you’re done.

But, since it’s New Years Eve, let’s make it a little more interesting and add some fun *adult* ingredients.

Alcohol and fun, colorful sprinkle stars and sanding sugar too.

Choose your favorite chocolate

Instead of making this a white chocolate covered popcorn recipe, either milk or dark chocolate can be used too. Substitute with your favorite kind of chocolate. Follow the same recipe instructions.

However substituting the white chocolate can alter the taste. Making this boozy snack less sweet. Still delicious, though. Plus it looks great.

White chocolate popcorn with an alcoholic twist, a shot of rum mixed in. It's a sweet snack and boozy drink in one. The perfect addition to your next party menu.

Ingredients

  • 12 cups popcorn (or ½ cup kernels)
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 fl oz rum
  • ¼ teaspoon gold sanding sugar
  • 2 teaspoons gold star sprinkles

Instructions

Pop the corn kernels using your preferred method, such as in a pot or air popper. Spread the popcorn out, in a single layer, on a piece of parchment paper.

Melt chocolate over a double boiler. Turn off the heat and stir in the rum.

Drizzle the chocolate mixture over the popcorn. Mix gently with a rubber spatula to coat well. Add sprinkles and gold sanding sugar, making sure they stick to the chocolate/popcorn.

Leave popcorn on the parchment paper to air dry for 2-3 hours. Once the chocolate is set, transfer to an air tight bag or container.

Notes

This recipe can also be made with milk chocolate; however the popcorn will not be as sweet.
